Wisdom teeth can cause discomfort and pain, especially when they break forward or lie in the wrong position. It is important to have the wisdom teeth evaluated to avoid further complications. Often it is not appropriate to remove a wisdom tooth with ongoing infection, as this can increase the risk of infection and severe pain in the aftermath of treatment. In such cases, we can provide urgent pain relief and temporary treatment, with planning for eventual removal at a later date.

If removal of the wisdom tooth is necessary, we will set up a new appointment for this at the dentist or specialist. The removal itself is not carried out during this hour, as we focus on assessment and pain relief.

If it has been a long time since you have been to the dentist, we recommend that you opt for the “Full examination and thorough cleaning”, which includes the assessment of the wisdom teeth as part of the general examination.

This treatment includes:

  • Assessment of the wisdom tooth
  • Emergency treatment and relief of any pain.
  • The removal of the wisdom tooth will be set up at an agreed time later.

  • Vurdering av visdomstannen
  • Akuttbehandling og lindring av eventuelle smerter.
  • Fjerning av visdomstannen vil settes opp til et avtalt tidspunkt senere.

Ofte stilte spørsmål

Do I need to have my wisdom teeth removed?

The most common problems with wisdom teeth are infections in the gums around the tooth, which can lead to infections in the throat, cheek, or jawbone. Infections can be treated with antibiotics but may recur. Other common issues include damage to neighboring teeth and lack of space. Wisdom teeth do not need to be removed as long as they are not causing damage or discomfort. However, if you are experiencing problems with your wisdom teeth, you should consider having them removed.

Do I have to have my wisdom teeth extracted?

Wisdom teeth need to be extracted if they erupt in the wrong position in the mouth and cause problems for other teeth. They should also be removed if you are experiencing pain, inflammation, or large cavities (caries). If you are having pain or issues with your wisdom teeth, we recommend booking an examination so that we can assess whether you should have one or more of your wisdom teeth removed.
