When you have a large cavity or break a tooth, a crown or bridge may be necessary. These will look and function almost like your own teeth. A crown is an artificial shell that reconstructs the natural shape of the tooth, while bridges are similar to crowns in a row, allowing for the replacement of multiple missing teeth with connecting units.

During your first visit, we will agree on the color and material, and take impressions of the teeth to be sent to the dental technician. We will provide a temporary solution for you to wear until the crown or bridge is ready. On your second visit, the crown or bridge will be attached to the tooth.

The cost of dental technology varies based on what needs to be done. Your dentist will inform you of this price, and we do not add any markup on dental technology services; you receive it at our cost price. If you have any questions, please email us at hei@blid.no or call us at 22 12 00 33.

Ofte stilte spørsmål

What is a dental crown?

The crown is the visible part of a tooth. When a tooth is severely damaged or worn down, a dental crown can be used to restore it. A crown is a type of dental cap that covers the entire visible portion of a tooth, giving it a new shape and function.

How to maintain a dental crown?

Even if parts of a tooth have been replaced with a crown, it is important to maintain it as if it were a healthy tooth. This includes brushing with fluoride toothpaste twice a day and using dental floss or interdental brushes along the edge of the crown. If you neglect oral hygiene, cavities can develop under the crown or at the edge of the crown over time.

How is a dental crown made?

If, in consultation with the dentist, it is determined that you need a crown, you will schedule an appointment for this. Together with the dentist, you, as the patient, will choose the color for the crown so that it matches the other teeth. First, anesthesia is administered, and then the dentist will shape the tooth so that the crown can be placed on it. This involves removing any damaged fillings and parts of the tooth that are unhealthy. Once the tooth is properly shaped, an impression or a digital scan of the teeth will be taken and sent to a dental technician. The technician will then create the crown, which is ready within 1-2 weeks. In the meantime, a "temporary crown" will be placed to protect the shaped tooth. When the crown is ready, the shaped tooth and the crown are cleaned, and the crown is tried on. If both the patient and dentist are satisfied with the shape and color, the crown is permanently cemented onto the tooth.
